The Opthimus 25 Sistema Solera OportO Ron Artesanal is a premium Solera-blended rum from the Dominican Republic, produced by Oliver & Oliver. This Dominican rum combines Caribbean rum-making tradition with an elaborate cask-ageing process. At the heart of the process is the Sistema Solera, in which rum components aged for varying lengths of time are blended together. The ‘25’ age statement should therefore be understood in the context of the Solera system and not as a classic 25-year-old age statement found on a single cask or vintage rum. This bottling gains a distinctive additional character through its secondary ageing in Oporto wine casks – that is, casks that previously contained port wine. This sets the OportO clearly apart from the other bottlings in the Opthimus range.

At 43% ABV in the 0.7-litre bottle, the Opthimus 25 OportO combines the smooth style of matured Dominican rums with the fruity influence of the port wine casks. The Solera blend ensures a harmonious and multi-layered character, whilst the OportO Cask Finish adds further notes of dark fruit, sweetness and oak. The producer, Oliver & Oliver, is based in the Dominican Republic and draws on Cuban rum-making traditions in its production. As regards its classification on delicando, the categorisation is clear: the Opthimus 25 OportO is listed as a Solera Blended Rum and is therefore neither a single cask rum nor a rum-based spirit.
