The Demerara distillery in Guyana has been deeply embedded in the history of sugar and rum production since the 17th century. It is known worldwide for the Wooden Pot Still process and the resulting high-quality rums.

A particular highlight is the rum distilled in 2005 from the rare Versailles Single Wooden Pot Still, the last of its kind in operation in the world. After the distillation process, the rum initially matured for eight years in American ex-bourbon barrels before receiving a special cask finish for a further eight years in French oak barrels that previously housed Madeira Dry sweet wines.

These selected barrels come from the island of Madeira and give the rum its special flavour. The careful selection and storage ensure a complex and distinctive flavour experience that impressively reflects the long tradition and expertise of the Demerara distillery.
