The company founder Don Andrés Brugal Montaner left his home country of Spain to seek wealth in the Caribbean. After learning the craft of rum production in Cuba, he moved to the Dominican Republic, more precisely to Puerto Plata, around 1855. The rums of the Brugal company still mature in this city today. After a few years there, he developed his own production process, which ensures the consistent quality of the rums. This process is still a well-kept secret that is now passed down from generation to generation.

The Brugal Extra Viejo Roner is a premium rum that matures for up to eight years in hand-selected American oak barrels after distillation.
