The Ilegal Mezcal Añejo Special Edition is a long matured bottling from Oaxaca, Mexico, and exemplifies the artisanal quality and authenticity for which Ilegal Mezcal is known worldwide. With an alcohol content of 40% by volume and bottled in a stylish 0.7-litre bottle, this Añejo bottling is aimed at connoisseurs who appreciate mezcal with a complex barrel profile and elegant maturity.
For this mezcal, 100% Espadín agaves are traditionally processed: The agave hearts (piñas) are roasted in earth pits over a wood fire, then ground, fermented and distilled twice. The mezcal is then matured for at least 13 months in new and used American oak barrels, giving it soft, perfectly balanced vanilla, caramel and smoky flavours.
The Special Edition Añejo is an expression of depth, warmth and artisanal sophistication. Ilegal Mezcal was originally smuggled for a bar in Guatemala - today the brand is a worldwide symbol of high-quality, sustainably produced mezcal with a rebellious character.
