La Cofradia Reserva Especial Añejo is a premium 100 per cent agave tequila from Mexico, produced by Destilería La Cofradia in the state of Jalisco. It is made exclusively from Agave Tequilana Weber Azul, which is processed for the distillery’s tequila production. La Cofradía has over half a century of experience and combines traditional tequila production with modern production facilities. For the Reserva Especial Añejo, the focus after distillation is particularly on barrel ageing. The current producer’s documentation describes the Añejo quality as having been aged in white oak barrels. Further information from the distributor states that this bottling has been aged for around twelve months in oak. This gives the originally clear agave spirit its golden colour and additional barrel character.

With an alcohol content of 40 per cent and a bottle size of 0.7 litres, the La Cofradia Añejo Reserva Especial combines the characteristic agave base with the influences of oak ageing. The distillery is situated on a hacienda in the heart of the municipality of Tequila in Jalisco and is particularly renowned for its 100 per cent Blue Weber agave tequilas and its distinctive bottle designs. The Reserva Especial expression is aimed primarily at connoisseurs of aged tequilas who are seeking a 100% agave Añejo tequila with classic barrel character. The combination of its Mexican origins, Blue Weber agave, oak barrel ageing and La Cofradía’s many years of experience makes it a quintessential example of traditional Añejo tequilas.
