Description
Description
Bain's Single Grain Whisky, the first of its kind in South Africa, is named after Andrew Geddes Bain, a Scottish engineer who completed the inland pass road from Wellington in 1853. The James Sedgwick Distillery honoured this historic achievement in 2009 with the launch of this special whisky. Situated at the foot of the famous Bain's Kloof Pass, the distillery feels a strong connection to Bain's legacy.
The whisky undergoes a careful maturation process that begins with three years of ageing in first fill bourbon casks. It is then decanted to extract the aromas and flavours from the cask walls in the best possible way. Bain's single grain whisky then matures for a further 18 to 30 months in fresh first fill bourbon casks to enhance its depth and complexity.
Only the finest South African grain is used in the production process, combined with pure water flowing over 850 million year old sandstone and fynbos. The distillation process takes place in column stills and is overseen by Andy Watts, Head of Whisky Excellence, and Jeff Green, Distillery Manager.
