The Opthimus 21 Solera Magna Cum Laude 38% represents a particularly selective style within the Opthimus range and combines long cask maturation with a composition deliberately designed to be elegant. For this Solera rum, which contains components aged for up to 21 years, only the very best ten per cent of carefully selected casks are used. Maturation takes place in both toasted French oak casks and ex-bourbon casks made from American white oak, allowing the different wood influences to blend harmoniously. French oak adds extra spice and structure, whilst the ex-bourbon casks contribute softer vanilla, caramel and toasted notes. The result is a multi-layered rum in which long ageing and careful cask selection take centre stage.

At 38% ABV, the Opthimus Magna Cum Laude Solera is robust enough to showcase a distinct cask character, yet remains smooth and well-balanced. The combination of matured rum components and different types of oak creates a complex blend of dark sweetness, subtle spice and ripe woody notes. Particularly distinctive is the interplay of vanilla, burnt caramel, dark chocolate and toasted oak, complemented by fruity and fresher notes. It is precisely the selection of particularly suitable casks and the use of rums aged for up to 21 years that give this 0.7-litre bottling its distinctive character and make it an interesting choice for connoisseurs of mature, harmonious Solera rums aged in French and American oak casks.
