The Nikka Miyagikyo Single Malt Whisky 90th Anniversary 45% is a special edition of the renowned Japanese single malt whisky from the Miyagikyo Distillery; with its special gift packaging, it commemorates Nikka Whisky’s 90th anniversary. The company was founded in 1934 by Masataka Taketsuru, one of the pioneers of Japanese whisky, and celebrated its 90th anniversary in 2024. The Miyagikyo Distillery was established in 1969 in a wooded valley near Sendai in Miyagi Prefecture and was deliberately designed as a counterpoint to the bolder Yoichi Distillery. To achieve the characteristic Miyagikyo style, the pot stills are operated using indirect steam heating, resulting in a particularly elegant, fruity and smooth malt character.

The Miyagikyo Single Malt is bottled at 45% ABV and, with no age statement, presents itself as a harmonious blend of malt whiskies from the distillery that have been matured for varying lengths of time. Typical of Miyagikyo is the interplay of sweet fruit, malt, vanilla and gentle oak notes. The official profile particularly highlights hints of apple, pear, dried fruit and vanilla. With this edition, the focus is also on the 90th Anniversary gift box, which commemorates the Nikka company, founded in 1934; the bottling itself is the well-known Miyagikyo Single Malt at 45 per cent.
