The Octomore Edition 17.1 Super Heavily Peated Islay Single Malt Scotch Whisky serves as the benchmark for the Octomore 17 range and showcases the interplay between intensely peated distillate, barley and classic bourbon cask maturation. It is produced by the Bruichladdich Distillery on Islay using 100 per cent Concerto barley from the Scottish mainland, sourced from the 2019 harvest and malted to a phenol content of 81.0 PPM. Distillation took place in 2020, after which the whisky matured entirely in first-fill bourbon casks for a total of five years. This deliberately straightforward cask selection allows the characteristic Octomore style to be presented in its purest form, whilst also serving as a benchmark for the other releases in the series with more complex maturation profiles.


The .1 Edition of Octomore is traditionally matured in bourbon or American whisky casks, with its character varying from release to release depending on the barley, the year of distillation and the conditions during maturation. In the Octomore 17.1 Release 2026, the sweet character of the first-fill bourbon casks combines with intense peat smoke and maritime influences. Particularly noteworthy is the balance between 81.0 PPM, a maturation period of just five years and a robust bottling strength of 59.7 per cent. The whisky spends its entire maturation period on Islay and thus embodies a concentrated style characterised by the distillate itself, in which sweet malt, American oak, coastal freshness and peaty smoke remain clearly discernible. This Super Heavily Peated Single Malt is bottled in a 0.7-litre bottle and presented in the characteristic Octomore tin box.
