Takamaka EXTRA NOIR Rum is a full-bodied blended rum from the Seychelles, combining different distillation methods with a special wood-ageing process. It is based on molasses rums from pot stills and column stills, which are blended together to create a well-balanced blend. The rum is then aged in French oak and subsequently pressed with French oak and ex-bourbon casks. This process allows the bolder, ester-rich characteristics of the pot-still components to meet the lighter structure of the column-still distillates. At the same time, the different types of wood contribute additional spice, vanilla and sweet notes. This elaborate production process gives the Extra Noir its distinctive character within the range of the Seychelles-based brand Takamaka.


Following the wood treatment, the Takamaka Extra Noir is allowed to rest for a further 60 days in ex-casks previously used for French sugar cane rum, before being bottled at 43 per cent in a 0.7-litre bottle, complete with a gift box. It is particularly worth noting that the rum contains no added sugar and is not chill-filtered. This preserves its full-bodied and powerful style with pronounced ester aromas. The French oak imparts distinctive spicy notes, whilst the ex-bourbon casks contribute vanilla and sweet-tinged nuances. With its combination of pot still and column still distillation, a molasses base, French oak, ex-bourbon casks and 60 days of cask resting, Takamaka EXTRA NOIR is an exceptional blended rum for connoisseurs of more intense styles.
