The company’s founder, Don Andrés Brugal Montaner, left his native Spain to seek his fortune in the Caribbean. Having learnt the art of rum-making in Cuba, he moved to the Dominican Republic around 1855, specifically to Puerto Plata. The Brugal company’s rums are still aged in this city today. After a few years there, he developed his own production process, which ensures the consistent quality of the rums. This process remains a closely guarded secret to this day, now passed down from generation to generation.

Brugal Leyenda Cognac is an exquisite premium rum from the Dominican Republic that reflects the Brugal family’s centuries-old expertise. It is initially aged in ex-bourbon casks made of American oak, which imparts gentle notes of vanilla and caramel to the rum. It is then aged in Oloroso sherry casks, which lend it a harmonious depth with rich, fruity nuances. Brugal Leyenda Sherry receives its finishing touch through further ageing in ex-cognac casks.
