Legend has it that the story of the famous Negroni began in 1919, when the charismatic Conte Camillo Negroni entered the Casoni cafe in Florence and asked the bartender Fosco Scarselli to "strengthen" his Americano. Scarselli decided to replace the soda in the classic Americano with gin, creating a new, stronger drink.

From then on, the Conte always ordered "the usual", and soon other guests imitated his preference by requesting the "Conte Negroni Style Americano". This demand gave rise to the now famous Negroni, a cocktail made with bitters, vermouth and gin.
