The Octomore EDITION: 15.1 Super Heavily Peated Islay Single Malt Limited Release 2024 59.1% comes from the Bruichladdich Distillery on Islay and serves as the stylistic benchmark within the Octomore range against which the other editions in the series are measured. The whisky was distilled in 2018 from the 2017 harvest and produced exclusively from 100% Concerto barley from the Scottish mainland. The exceptionally heavily peated malt boasts an impressive phenol content of 108.2 PPM and defines the uncompromisingly smoky character of the bottling. Following distillation, the single malt was matured for five years in a combination of first-fill bourbon casks and re-charred ex-bourbon casks, resulting in intense peaty smoke blending with sweet malt, vanilla and richly toasted oak.

With an alcohol content of 59.1 per cent, the Octomore 15.1 Limited Release 2024 is particularly powerful and concentrated, yet remains astonishingly complex. The bourbon cask maturation brings out notes of vanilla cream, toffee and sweet, charred oak, whilst mango, banana, apricot and citrus fruits provide fresh contrasts. Earthy peat smoke and maritime notes underline the typical Islay single malt character. The 0.7-litre bottle in a tin box also makes this limited edition particularly attractive to collectors and an ideal high-quality gift. As the foundation of the Octomore 15 series, the 15.1 demonstrates particularly clearly how intensely peated malt and American oak can harmonise.
