From 2024, the Plantation brand will be renamed Planteray by Maison Ferrand. This decision reflects the company's endeavour to show sensitivity and respect for historical contexts, particularly with regard to issues such as racial equality, equality and diversity.

The name change aims to make the brand image more modern and cosmopolitan. "Planteray" combines "Plant" for sugar cane and "Ray" for rays of sunshine, which support the growth of sugar cane, and aims to create a positive association without historical baggage. Despite the name change, the flavour and production process of the rums remain unchanged.

The rum is made from molasses at the Rum & Co. of Fiji Distillery and ferments for 4 to 5 days. After distillation in column stills, it matures for 4 years in bourbon barrels (200 litres) in the country of origin. It is then given a 5-month finish in Ferrand barrels (350 litres) and matures for a further 7 months in coffee liqueur barrels, which gives it a special coffee flavour.
