Liam Hughes and Mike Hayward set themselves the goal of bringing the tradition of single malt whisky distillation back to Glasgow and founded "The Glasgow Distillery Company Ltd". This name pays tribute to one of Scotland's first licensed distilleries, which was established back in 1770. Operating under different names over the years, the original Glasgow Distillery Company produced a variety of whiskies, including unpeated, peated and triple-distilled single malts, until its closure in 1902.

The establishment of the new distillery marked the beginning of the realisation of its mission to re-establish the production of high-quality spirits in Glasgow.

1770 Glasgow The Original Single Malt symbolises the starting point of the Glasgow Distillery's whisky production. It combines the finest Concerto malt barley with pure water from Loch Katrine. After at least 72 hours of fermentation and a particularly slow distillation, this whisky is first matured in first-fill ex-bourbon casks and then refined in new American oak casks. At 46%, bottled without chill-filtration and in natural colour, The Original reflects the craftsmanship and commitment to quality of the Glasgow Distillery.
