Laphroaig is a whisky distillery on the Scottish Hebridean island of Islay and is owned by the Japanese-American Beam Suntory Group. The distillery buildings are listed on the Scottish Heritage List. During the production of Laphroaig, barley malt is dried over a peat fire. The smoke from this peat, which can only be found on Islay, gives Laphroaig its particularly rich flavour.

The Laphroaig 33 Years Old is a limited edition which is dedicated to Ian Hunter. Ian Hunter ran the distillery from 1908 to 1944 and was the last descendant of the Johnston family. Each new "Ian Hunter" bottling contains a booklet with another chapter of the distillery's history.

The Ian Hunter Story Book 3 is aged for 33 years in ex-bourbon oak casks.
