Description
Riga Black Balsam 1752 ORIGINAL Recipe 45% Vol. 0.5 l is a legendary drink that has its roots in the 18th century. The recipe was developed by the pharmacist Kunze, who originally created it as a panacea. After quickly gaining popularity, Riga Black Balsam received royal approval from Kaiser Catherine II in 1781, which led to its widespread distribution not only in Russia, but also across generations. To this day, Riga Black Balsam is an integral part of traditional spirits culture.
Originally, Riga Black Balsam was prized for its supposed medicinal properties. It was used to alleviate a variety of ailments, from colds and digestive problems to snake bites. Although no medicinal claims are made today, the unique flavour of this herbal liqueur remains a treat not to be missed.
Riga Black Balsam is a sophisticated blend of various herbs, flowers, roots and berries, including lime blossom, birch buds, valerian root, raspberries, blueberries and Ingwerer. These ingredients are combined and matured in oak barrels, giving the balsam its characteristic strength and bittersweet complexity. In addition, notes of nutmeg and black pepper provide an unmistakable depth that makes it an outstanding liqueur.
