Claude Chatelier XO Extra Old Fine Cognac embodies traditional French cognac production and an exceptionally long period of cask ageing. The eaux-de-vie used in this blend are distilled from the classic white grape varieties Ugni Blanc and Colombard, which provide a suitable basis for distillation and subsequent long-term ageing. A distinctive feature of the Claude Chatelier XO Cognac is its ageing period of at least 22 years. Initially, the eaux-de-vie are stored in new Limousin oak casks, allowing them to absorb intense woody and spicy notes. They are then matured further in older Limousin oak casks, where the cask notes can blend more harmoniously with the distillate.

During this long ageing phase, the casks rest in the traditional ‘Paradis’ – the area of a cognac warehouse reserved for particularly old and valuable eaux-de-vie. The combination of at least 22 years’ ageing, various Limousin oak casks and the Ugni Blanc and Colombard grape varieties defines the complex character of this XO Extra Old Cognac bottling. With an alcohol content of 40 per cent, the Claude Chatelier XO Extra Old Fine Cognac is bottled in a 0.7-litre bottle. The long barrel ageing brings out classic ageing aromas such as vanilla, oak and rancio, whilst floral and fruity notes are preserved. The Claude Chatelier XO thus presents itself as a long-aged French cognac with a traditional production profile.
