The Tomintoul distillery, located in the Scottish Highland Park in the Cairngorms National Park and named after the nearby village of Tomintoul, opened its doors in 1964 and is now owned by Angus Dundee Distillers.

At 370 metres above sea level, Tomintoul is the second highest distillery in Scotland, surpassed only by Braeval Distillery, which was founded in 1973. Although the majority of the 3.2 million litres of alcohol produced annually is exported to the United States for blends, Tomintoul continues to bring special single cask bottlings to the market.

The Tomintoul Peaty Tang is currently the distillery's only whisky made with smoky malt. Although the whisky is rather simple and the finish is only of medium length, the smokiness combined with its youthful freshness takes centre stage. It is a light whisky that tastes better and better the more you taste it and is particularly suitable for the autumn and winter months.
