The Dictador BEST OF 1979 ALTISIMO Colombian Rum Limited Release is an exceptionally long-aged vintage rum from Colombia, bottled at 46 per cent in a 0.7-litre bottle. This bottling is part of Dictador’s exclusive ‘Best Of’ series, for which particularly old vintage distillates are selected from the company’s stocks. This rum was distilled in 1979, is made from molasses and was subsequently aged for several decades. Dictador is based in Cartagena de Indias and is particularly renowned for its long-aged Colombian rums and strictly limited vintage bottlings. Colombia’s tropical climate ensures an intense interaction between the distillate and the wood during storage, thereby shaping the development of these rare, long-aged rums.


The Dictador Best of 1979 ALTISIMO spent a total of 39 years in selected whisky casks from the Scottish Highlands. This special cask selection is a hallmark of the ALTISIMO Linie and imparts influences to the rum that are comparatively unusual in South American bottlings. In particular, peat, smoke and oak complement the rum’s character, which has developed over decades. Only 300 bottles were bottled worldwide, giving the 1979 vintage significant collector’s value. The combination of 39 years’ maturation, Highland whisky casks, the 1979 vintage and a limited run of 300 bottles makes this bottling one of the most exclusive variants within the Dictador Best Of Collection.
