The Douglas Laing Big Peat 12 Years Old is an Islay blended malt Scotch whisky, composed exclusively of single malt Scotch whiskies from the Scottish island of Islay. For this blend, the independent bottler Douglas Laing marries various Islay malts to create a characteristically maritime and peaty profile. The components include Caol Ila, which brings sweet notes; Bowmore, for balance; Ardbeg, for medicinal and earthy facets; and a proportion of Port Ellen, which lends the blend additional elegance. All the whiskies used in this edition have been matured for at least twelve years. Big Peat is part of Douglas Laing’s Remarkable Regional Malts series, which showcases different Scottish whisky regions through blended malts.


The Big Peat 12 Years Old Islay Blended Malt is bottled at a robust 46 per cent in a 0.7-litre bottle, complete with a gift box. Douglas Laing consistently refrains from chill filtration and the addition of colouring, ensuring the whisky reaches the bottle as close to its natural state as possible. The twelve-year-old Big Peat is a particularly clear example of the typical Islay style, combining the influence of peat smoke with maritime and phenolic notes.
